Your evening begins at Lark Distillery, where you’ll enjoy a guided tasting of premium Tasmanian whisky or gin. Meet your host – an Antarctic expert – who will set the scene with stories of courage, endurance, and survival from Douglas Mawson’s legendary Australasian Antarctic Expedition (AAE) of 1911-14.
After the tasting, journey to the Mawson’s Huts Replica Museum, where you’ll step inside a faithful recreation of the original expedition base in Antarctica. Led by lantern light, you’ll cross the threshold into history, immersing yourself in the sights and sounds of life on the ice over a century ago. Inside the hut, you’ll be transported back in time as you explore the cramped spaces that sheltered Mawson and his men in one of the most extreme environments on Earth. Along the way, hear extraordinary tales of survival, scientific discovery, and the relentless Antarctic elements that shaped their fate.
