DARK SKY DINNER
Start the evening with a tour of the Radio Telescope, taking in the control room and the Grote Reber Museum, as well as a chance to check out the Astronomical Society of Tasmania’s observing sheds and equipment. Then head down the road to Frogmore Creek for a delicious candle-lit dinner of beautiful local produce by Head Chef Mark Burne, and a live celestial soundscape by local violin virtuoso Charlie McCarthy.
You’ll hear from astrophysicists Professor Naomi McClure-Griffiths and Dr Karelle Siellez as they chart humanity’s age-old drive to understand the vast unknown of the universe, and how the constant hum of our gadgets interferes with our ability to receive the faint whispers of distant galaxies. Your MC for the evening will be ABC Radio National’s Natasha Mitchell.
You’ll have ample opportunity to chat with the speakers and head outside to enjoy telescopes and guided stargazing with the Astronomical Society of Tasmania.
Please note that spaces are limited and bookings will close two weeks before the event, unless sold out prior. We suggest you book soon to avoid disappointment.
The dinner includes a welcome drink on arrival. Other beverages will be available for purchase.
If you choose the CATCH-A-RIDE ticket, the bus will depart from Hobart (TMAG Dunn Place car park) at 5:15pm and then depart from Frogmore Creek around 9pm.
