KUNANYI BIOBLITZ: DAYTIME AND TWILIGHT NATURE DISCOVERY
Led by Theresa Sainty (Pakana woman, researcher, writer, and Senior Indigenous Scholar at UTAS), the afternoon begins with grounding and connecting to Country, followed by a short expert talk, then a guided walk using iNaturalist and bird call apps – identifying and documenting the fascinating species that call Kunanyi home. Hot chocolate and biscuits will be provided during a short break. Then the experience will shift to deep listening and twilight ecology.
Carpooling is recommended, due to limited car parking availability at the Springs.
A reasonable level of fitness is required, as the guided bioblitz will involve walking the tracks of Kunanyi. The tracks may be slippery or have debris on them. Bring warm layers, sturdy walking/hiking shoes, a mobile device and a thermos/keep cup. Starting and finishing at The Hut at The Springs.
This event is organized by the Student Science Communicators Network, a volunteer youth-led community that builds Tasmania's science communicators of the future. Find out more here.
