Dr Frederique Olivier (Fred) will take you deep into the pristine Antarctic wilderness and behind the scenes of filming emperor penguins through the brutal Antarctic winter. Emperors are exquisitely adapted to this extreme environment — but are we? This project, which supported the BBC documentary series Penguins: Spy in the Huddle, sparked a unique collaboration between scientists and filmmakers, using remote-controlled robot cameras to observe penguins up close for both science and storytelling.

This project is presented by Beaker Street, in partnership with CSIRO.

SPEAKER

DR FREDERIQUE OLIVIER
After 20 seasons in Antarctica, Frederique Olivier has officially spent more time with penguins than most people spend on holiday—starting as a polar scientist and ending up lying in the snow filming emperor penguins for the BBC, all in the name of science, storytelling, and staying just warm enough to press record.
