Tasmanian composer Constantine Koukias (IHOS Amsterdam) created VAST, an immersive international sound work premiering at Beaker Street Festival at Hobart’s Theatre Royal. The piece translates the discovery of dark energy and the expanding universe into a 360-degree sonic experience. Former ABC Classic presenter Christopher Lawrence hosts a conversation between Constantine and Professor Brian Schmidt, whose Nobel Prize-winning research directly inspired the work, as they explore the science, ideas, and creative process behind VAST. The session will also include demonstrations of elements of the innovative spatial audio technology used in the production.
