Over the past year, Pakana woman and UTAS Senior Indigenous Scholar Theresa Sainty has collaborated with a group of artists to develop the concept of Hobartica as a future cultural embassy: an evolving creative project designed to connect people meaningfully with Antarctica while promoting custodianship and protection of its fragile and remote environments.

Theresa will open this year’s Festival at Hobartica, our Antarctic precinct, reflecting on the deep connections between Lutruwita and Antarctica, and the growing pressures human activity places on one of the last relatively untouched places on Earth.
